Few things are nicer than receiving delicious, made-from-scratch treats using high-quality, organic, and fair-trade ingredients. From culinary reviews to magazines to online media, food publishing is ripe with possibilities. Join Chicago Women in Publishing to sample delectable tidbits as panelists Carol Haddix, food editor for the Chicago Tribune and editor of the popular book Chicago Cooks; Doug Seibold, president of Agate Publishing; Heather Shouse, the restaurant editor for Time Out Chicago; and Laura Bruzas, founder and publisher of Healthy Dining, discuss how you can combine a passion for words with a passion for food. The panel will be moderated by Tom O'Brien, principal of O'Brien Culinary Communications and also teacher of food writing classes at Kendall College.

Hokin Lecture Hall Room 109 Gather with friends and neighbors to learn about eating that is good for you and good for the planet. The editor of Healthy Dining Chicago will be sharing a few of her favorite seasonal recipes, discussing local organic food options and offering tips for growing your own and buying produce at Farmers' Markets. She'll be joined by Sheri Doyel, the Farm Forager for Chicago's Farmers Market Program (city-run markets) and the independently-run Green City Market. As Farm Forager, Sheri seeks out vendors for the markets, advises on regulations, conducts farm inspections, and acts as an unofficial liaison between these markets and larger food systems projects in the City. Before taking this position, Sheri was the first grower for a start-up organic vegetable farm in Woodstock, Illinois, handling everything from planting, harvesting, selling at market, and creating a CSA. This program is part of The Alliance for a Greener South Loop's year-long seminar series, bringing "earth-friendly" topics to the South Loop. Mark your calendars for the 4th Tuesday of the month. Bring your questions and come learn about everything from "green" interior decorating to caring for our pets and the Earth at the same time. Laura has taught adult education classes at the Latin School and Francis Parker, received a community grant for developing and delivering a series of wellness workshops, offered healthy cooking classes at Whole Foods Market and Gilda's Club and presented a motivational lecture series on wellness and personal effectiveness for Chicago Public Library patrons. She has done volunteer work for Earth Save Chicago, Go Veggie, and FamilyFarmed.org and served on the Board of Directors for a variety of local organizations including the Society for Human Resource Management and the Human Resources Association of Greater Oak Brook.
